"Black Sabbath" LP by Black Sabbath
Well known music journalist Lester Bangs referred to Black Sabbaths debut with the words "Just like Cream. But worse". The press generally showed little mercy to the album on its release in 1970. Years later, the quality of Black Sabbath's music was finally recognized, as written by Rolling Stone magazine : "This album has hippies for breakfast! ". The band itself remembers the recording from 1969 with benevolence. According to the band, there was enough time left to order a beer in the pub at the end of the day after only 12 hours of recording. Tommy Iommis guitar playing is affected by two missing fingertips he lost in an accident. Ozzy Osbourneβs lyrics were inspired by the literature of J.R.R. Tolkien and H.P. Lovecraft.
